According to a recent research, sales of desktops, laptops, and tablets in India increased by 5% to reach 19.6 million units last year, despite a sharp decline in the fourth quarter of 2022.

According to market research company Canalys, in 2022, desktop and tablet shipments considerably climbed by 37% and 21% to 3.2 million and 5.4 million units, respectively, while notebook sales declined by 7% to 11 million units.

With a market share of more than 30% in both the fourth quarter and the whole year 2022, HP dominated the Indian PC (tablets excluded) market.

Lenovo came in second but had a significant fall in shipments of 31% in Q4 of 2022.

Nonetheless, Lenovo’s overall shipments in 2022 increased by 3% above those in 2021 thanks to the growth of its commercial division.

In Q4 2022, Apple defeated Asus to claim the last slot in the top five, placing ahead of Dell and Acer in third and fourth place, respectively.

According to the research, Apple overtook Samsung in Q4 2022 to grab the top spot in the Indian tablet market.

According to analyst Ashweej Aithal, “Indian consumers spent on electronics in the first half of 2022, but demand swiftly fell down, resulting to a dismal Christmas season for vendors and shops.”

Going forward, Canalys projects a 6% decline in PC and tablet sales in India to 18 million devices in 2023.

This indicates a lesser decline than the anticipated 9% decline in the worldwide market.

India will be impacted by the global economic slowdown this year, but compared to other important markets, the country’s GDP growth prospects are still favorable.

In India this year and in the future, Aithal predicted that the educational market would be significant for PCs and tablets.
