Injured Axar Patel Is Replaced By Washington Sundar For The Asia Cup Final, And The BCCI Provides A Concerning Update Before The ODI World Cup

Axar Patel, the premier all-rounder for India, has had various ailments with just three weeks till the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Washington Sundar will take Axar’s position in India’s lineup for the Asia Cup 2023 final match against Sri Lanka, but Axar’s injuries might be a big setback for the Men in Blue.

Axar scored 42 runs against Bangladesh but was unable to save his team from a 6 run loss. The 29-year-old was struck on the arm by a throw from one of the deep fielders before to being dismissed.

Axar strained his left quadriceps during Friday’s Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match against Bangladesh, according to a release from the BCCI.

According to a press statement, Mr. Axar Patel will not play in the Asia Cup final versus Sri Lanka because of a left quadriceps injury suffered during India’s Super Four match against Bangladesh on Friday.

“Mr. Washington Sundar has been selected by the Men’s Selection Committee as a substitute. The all-rounder traveled to Colombo this evening and joined the team, it said.

Axar has had various ailments, including a hamstring niggle, a person familiar with the situation, according to a report in PTI.

Axar is presently dealing with many wounds. He suffered a broken little finger, was struck on the forearm by a throw from deep, and most significantly, he strained his hamstring. Washington has therefore been contacted, a BCCI source who spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity said.

With just three weeks till the World Cup, Axar’s hamstring problem will worry the Indian team management more than the swelling on his forearm.

Sundar, who last participated in an ODI match in January 2023, is most likely to cover for Ravindra Jadeja. However, Sundar may get a last-minute call-up to the team if Axar’s ailments are critical.

The BCCI has officially selected its 15-man team for the ODI World Cup, however alterations may be made up to the deadline on September 28.

Sundar has been added to the Asia Cup roster as a last-minute backup after being scheduled to represent India at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
