Suryakumar Yadav, the interim captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), was found guilty of violating the IPL’s code of conduct. For sustaining a sluggish over-rate against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match no. 22 on Sunday in Mumbai, he was fined INR 12 Lakh.

According to the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offenses, “Mr. Suryakumar Yadav was fined Rs. 12 lakh since it was his team’s first infringement of the season.”

Due to Rohit Sharma’s stomach sickness for the game against KKR, Suryakumar Yadav took over as captain. The usual MI captain, though, contributed as a stand-in impact player throughout the pursuit of 186.

Nitish Rana, a batsman, was also penalised 25% of his match money for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. After losing his wicket to a Delhi colleague, the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper got into a verbal altercation with MI’s Hrithik Shokeen as he made his way to the dressing room.

The IPL announcement said, “Rana acknowledged to the Level 1 Offense under Article 2.21 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.”

As a result of the same incident involving KKR skipper Nitish Rana, MI spinner Hrithik Shokeen was also penalised 10% of his match pay for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. Shokeen has acknowledged the Level 1 Offense under IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.5.

The Match Referee’s decision regarding Level 1 Code of Conduct violations is final and binding.

Rana attempted a huge shot on the opening ball of the ninth over, but he was caught by Ramandeep Singh because he was unable to achieve the proper height. Rana made a remark as he walked the distance back to the pavilion, prompting Shokeen to send him on his way. The KKR took offense to this, which sparked the violent argument.

Suryakumar Yadav, the interim captain for the Mumbai Indians, and experienced spinner Piyush Chawla intervened to try to calm Rana down after he was removed for 5.
