Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, said on Sunday that establishing industrial centers and enacting a uniform GST rate are essential steps to protect MSMEs, which combined have the ability to fuel India’s development engine.
Following the restoration of his Lok Sabha membership, Gandhi visited “one of Ooty’s most celebrated brands” — Moddys Chocolates — on his route to his parliamentary district of Wayanad earlier this month. The chocolate-makers of Ooty, an internationally known Indian sector, are tucked away in the scenic Nilgiris, according to a statement from the Congress.
“Recently, I had the wonderful privilege of visiting one of Ooty’s most renowned brands: Moddys Chocolates, on my route to Wayanad. Gandhi was cited in the release as stating, “The entrepreneurial drive of the couple who founded this modest firm, Muralidhar Rao and Swati, is encouraging.
The all-female staff that collaborates with them is equally impressive, he said. He added, “Some of the most exquisite couverture chocolates I’ve ever tasted are created by this dedicated team of 70 women.” But like many other small and medium-sized enterprises all throughout India, Moddys is struggling under the weight of the Gabbar Singh Tax, he said.
“It is the pure grit of hardworking Indians like the women I met here that sustains India’s growth in a context where the government appears to favor larger corporations to the detriment of the MSME sector,” he remarked.
Gandhi said that protecting these MSMEs, who together have the ability to fuel India’s development engine, means developing industrial clusters and enacting a unified GST rate. Such women-led teams, according to him, need all the assistance available.
Children like Muralidhar and Swati deserve a prosperous India, according to the Congress politician. Gandhi also appears in the video he posted attempting to make chocolate and engaging with the factory’s all-female crew.
