In connection with an attempted murder case, two IPS officers, two retired officials, and Jagan Mohan Reddy, the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and leader of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), have all been charged.
K. Raghurama Krishna Raju, the governing Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA from the Undi assembly constituency, filed a complaint, which led to the Andhra Pradesh Police opening a case.
In the meantime, retired officials R Vijay Paul, a former police officer and superintendent of the Guntur Government General Hospital G Prabhavati, and IPS officers PV Sunil Kumar and PSR Sitaramanjaneyulu have been identified.
A representative told PTI, “I filed a case at 7 p.m. on Thursday against the former chief minister and others after Raju received his police complaint by mail a month ago and after seeking legal advice.
The official said that Raju had also claimed in his complaint to have been the victim of “custodial torture.”
IPC Sections 120 B, 166, 167, 197, 307, 326, 465, and 506 read with 34 have been utilised to charge the five defendants. The police cited the Indian Penal Code (IPC) because the matter has been going on for three years.
The Guntur police station’s Nagarampalem police station received the case. TDP politician Raju filed a complaint against Reddy and other authorities on June 10, bringing his 2021 arrest case to light in Andhra Pradesh.
He claims that high officials and the former chief minister are preparing a criminal conspiracy against him. The 62-year-old lawmaker has further charged that members of the purported conspiracy included government physician Prabhavathi, police officer Vijaya Paul, and senior IPS officers Sunil Kumar and Sitaramanjaneyulu.
In May 2021, he was taken into custody during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Andhra Pradesh government’s CB-CID filed a fake case against me. Raju said in the complaint that he was unjustly pulled into the police car on May 14, 2021, and carried to Guntur against my will and that he was harassed throughout his incarceration.
Kumar was in charge of the CID, Sitaramanjaneyulu was in charge of the intelligence wing, Paul was the ASP CID, and Reddy was the chief minister when Raju was detained.
Even though Raju underwent open heart surgery a few weeks before his detention, the MLA claims he was mistreated. In addition, he said that he received death threats for insulting the former chief minister.
“I was taken into custody without following the correct legal procedures or receiving a medical evaluation, among other rights. I was detained at the CB-CID office in Guntur starting at 9:30 p.m. (May 14, 2021). Despite having open heart bypass surgery, I was not provided with my medication, Raju, a Narasapuram-based YSRCP MP, alleged.
Raju further claimed that when the magistrate had taken him to the Guntur Government General Hospital, Prabhavathi, the hospital’s former superintendent, had teamed up with Sunil Kumar to fabricate medical records, claiming Raju had not been hurt.
“The Supreme Court ordered that I be moved from Guntur to Secunderabad Army Hospital due to police brutality, and they later granted me bail,” Raju claimed. A week later, the bail was paid.
He made several other accusations in his complaint, including that all of the accused should face legal action and that justice must be served for these crimes.
