According to a source familiar with the discussions, President Joe Biden is anticipated to choose Julie Chavez Rodriguez, a top White House aide, to lead his reelection campaign.
Since Chavez Rodriguez’s appointment has not been confirmed and Biden has not yet publicly begun his reelection campaign, the individual spoke on the condition of anonymity. The decision by Biden to choose Chavez Rodriguez was initially announced by CBS News.
Longtime Democratic Party activist Chavez Rodriguez also served in the White House under previous President Barack Obama. She is the great-granddaughter of union activist Helen Fabela Chávez and labour leader Cesar Chavez.
She participated in protests, picket lines, boycotts, marches, and union meetings while growing up in California.
Since the start of Biden’s administration, she has worked as the head of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. In June of last year, she added the senior adviser position.
Chavez Rodriguez is closely connected to Kamala Harris, the vice president. She worked as the national political director and travelling chief of staff for Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign as well as her Senate office. She then became a deputy campaign manager and senior advisor for Latino outreach for Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.
According to three sources informed on the conversations, Biden is anticipated to officially launch his 2024 reelection campaign as early as this week.
The individuals, who wished to remain anonymous to discuss private discussions, said they were unaware of any scheduling decisions that had been made but that Biden had been considering Tuesday, April 25, which falls exactly four years after the Democrat joined the 2020 campaign. It is anticipated that the next announcement would take the shape of a video sent to supporters.
Although Biden, 80, has often stated his intention to seek reelection, advisors said he has not been particularly compelled to begin his campaign since he faces no real competition for his party’s nomination.
