The second meeting of opposition party leaders is scheduled to begin on July 17 in Bengaluru, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), and it was inspected by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, state in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, and state home minister Parameshwar on Saturday.
Mallikarjun Kharge, president of the Congress and leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, has already sent an invitation to prominent opposition figures to attend the second unity conference. Kharge reminded prominent opposition party leaders in a letter that they had been invited to attend an opposition gathering in Patna on June 23 by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The conference, according to Kharge’s invitation letter, “was a great success as we were able to discuss various important issues that threaten our democratic polity and came to a unanimous decision on fighting together in the next General Elections.”
On July 17 and 18, Congress will host the second Opposition unity summit in Bengaluru, Karnataka, with the participation of top leaders from at least 24 political parties.
Eight new parties have reportedly pledged their support to the opposition parties’ efforts to form a unified front against the BJP before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
According to reports, key leaders from as many as 24 political parties will attend the second conference, which will be held in Bengaluru, Karnataka, after the major Opposition summit that took place in Patna, Bihar, last month.
“Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Kongu Desa Makkal Katchi (KDMK), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), All India Forward Bloc, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Kerala Congress (Joseph), and Kerala Congress (Mani) are among the new political parties that will be joining the meeting,” they stated.
They said, “Sonia Gandhi, Chair of the Congress Parliamentary Party, will also be present at the Opposition Parties meeting.” Notably, the BJP previously allied with the KDMK and MDMK during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
