After two “unnatural” fatalities related to fever were recorded at a private hospital on Monday, the Kerala Health Department has issued a warning in the Kozhikode district.
According to the health authorities, Nipah Virus is thought to be to blame for the two fatalities, and one of the deceased’s relatives is now receiving treatment in an ICU.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George presided over a high-level discussion on this topic.
Earlier in 2018, there was an epidemic of Nipah in the districts of Kozhikode and Malappuram, and later in 2021, Kozhikode also reported a case of Nipah.
Fruit bats are the source of the Nipah Virus, which the World Health Organization (WHO) claims may be lethal to both people and animals. It is known to produce fever, muscle discomfort, headache, fever, dizziness, and nausea in addition to respiratory sickness.
