Keshub Mahindra, The Founder Of The Mahindra Group, Dies In Mumbai At The Age Of 99

An official confirmed that renowned businessman Keshub Mahindra, Chairman Emeritus of the industrial giant Mahindra Group, died away here on Wednesday morning.
He passed away quietly at home at the age of 99. Anand Mahindra, an industrialist, as well as other family members, are his nephew’s survivors.
Mahindra, a well-known philanthropist, was Union Carbide India Ltd.’s non-executive chairman when the major Bhopal gas leak occurred in December 1984.
Mahindra and other defendants were found guilty in 2010 and sentenced to two years in prison, which was subsequently extended on bail. This incident was ranked as the biggest industrial catastrophe in history.
Mahindra, who was born in Shimla on October 9, 1923, attended the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School to further his studies.
After that, in 1947, he joined the Mahindra & Mahindra Group, where he eventually climbed to become Chairman in 1963.
The Mahindra Group developed through time into a major conglomerate with holdings in a variety of industries, including engineering, agricultural equipment, education, aerospace, IT, housing, real estate, and financial, beginning with its well-known Willys jeeps that once controlled the roadways.
Keshub Mahindra served on the PM’s Council on Commerce and Industry from 2004 to 2010 and participated in a number of high-level government committees and panels with several administrations.
He received several national and international awards, served on the boards of numerous business organisations and associations, including ASSOCHAM and HUDCO, as well as Tatas, SAIL, IFC, ICICI, HDFC, EFI, AIMA, Bombay Dyeing, and Bombay Burmah Trade Company, among others.
