In the bathroom of her home in Kolkata’s Kasba neighbourhood, a lady is accused of killing her infant shortly after giving birth, according to the police.

The “killing” occurred on April 22 when the lady went to the bathroom. She then gave birth to a son, and after “getting perplexed after hearing him cry,” she tossed the newborn boy out the window, according to a police officer.

“The lady said she was unaware of her pregnancy since her menstrual cycle had been normal for a while. She gave birth to a son on Saturday. She stated that after hearing him scream, she became confused and broke the window pane before throwing the baby out.

Locals raced to the scene after hearing the sound of a window glass shattering, where they discovered a baby and called Kasba Police Station.

“The lady was discovered bleeding from her lower body. She was brought to a local hospital with her baby. Next morning, the infant passed away, he said.

The lady, who has a mental illness, was married in November of last year, according to preliminary investigation, the officer added.

Her spouse is a drunkard. He and other family members said that they were unaware of the woman’s pregnancy as well. We are looking at it,” he said.

For a “act done with intent to prevent child from being born alive or to cause it to die after birth,” he said, the mother has been charged under a provision of the IPC.
