Kushboo Sundar, a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), said on Wednesday that she was traveling to Udupi in Karnataka to investigate claims that some of her fellow students secretly recorded a video of a female student using the restroom at a paramedical institution.

Three female college students, Shabhnaz, Alfiya, and Aleema, have been the subject of a FIR due to the event. They were expelled from the Netra Jyothi Institute of Allied Health Sciences institution after it was claimed they recorded another student using a phone in a restroom.

The NCW member described the situation as “extremely saddening”.

The matter has also sparked a political controversy, with the BJP organising a statewide demonstration on Thursday in support of their call for the detention of the three Muslim students who took part in the recording of a Hindu girl.

Kushboo Sundar said in a tweet: “Heading to Udupi to check into the situation where females were recorded in a bathroom by their other female college friends. The sight of kids engaging in such behavior is heartbreaking. I will be investigating the situation, talking to the students, meeting the police, and visiting the campus as a member of @NCWIndia. Nobody has the right to violate a woman’s dignity.
