A cousin has disclosed that Lawrence Bishnoi’s family pays approximately ₹35–40 lakh annually to care for the mobster while he is incarcerated. The 50-year-old Ramesh Bishnoi added that the family “never imagined” the 31-year-old, a law graduate from Punjab University, would turn to crime.
We’ve always had a lot of money. Lawrence’s father owned 110 acres of property in our area and served as a policeman in the Haryana Police. Lawrence consistently donned pricey clothing and footwear. According to Ramesh, the family still spends ₹35–40 lakh a year on him while he is incarcerated, according to The Indian Express.
During his school years, Bishnoi, whose true name was Balkaran Brar and who was born in Firozpur, Punjab, changed it to Lawrence, apparently at his aunt’s advice because she thought it “sounded better.”
His name has surfaced in several high-profile incidents in recent years, such as the shooting death of Maharashtra legislator Baba Siddique, a close friend of Bollywood actor Salman Khan, in Mumbai last week. It is thought that Siddique’s friendship with Khan contributed to the politician’s death.
The Canadian Police accused members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang earlier this week of taking part in “violent” actions on Canadian soil in “collaboration” with “agents” of the Indian government. India has refuted the allegations.
Additionally, reputed Bishnoi gang members allegedly shot and killed well-known Punjabi musician Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022.
Lawrence Bishnoi, where are you?
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the state’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) are investigating him in several instances. He is now being held at Gujarat’s Ahmedabad Sabarmati Central Jail.
The Union home ministry issued an order in August 2023 prohibiting Bishnoi from being removed from that prison for any reason. The order was renewed for an additional year in August.
