An official said on Friday that a 51-year-old man passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital, hours after he was hurt in a mob assault on police officers during a confrontation outside a Ram temple in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad city. He said that Shaikh Muniruddin was the name of the dead. A senior police officer said that the victim passed away while receiving treatment at a private metropolitan hospital on Thursday night, hours after the incident. The cause of his death, however, was not given by the police.
Following an altercation between two groups near the Ram temple in the Kiradpura neighbourhood of Aurangabad, now known as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, at least 12 people were hurt, including 10 police officers. A mob of about 500 people threw stones and bottles filled with petrol when the cops attempted to control the situation. The miscreants set 13 automobiles on fire during the event, which took place between Wednesday and Thursday night. According to authorities, the police deployed tear gas, some plastic bullets, and live rounds to disperse the crowd.
In the meanwhile, the city, where five companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) are now stationed, returned to normal. “Security has been ramped up in the city’s key areas. To keep the calm, the government has sent out five SRPF companies, and approximately 600 police officers are on duty “the source stated.
