A horrifying case has come to light from Palghar district of Maharashtra. Here, a 43-year-old man allegedly murdered a woman after she lodged a rape complaint against her live-in partner. Police said the incident took place between August 9 and August 12 and the body of the 28-year-old woman has not been found yet. Vasai Assistant Police Commissioner Padmaja Bade said that the accused, a resident of Vasai area of Palghar, was arrested on Tuesday.
An official of Naigaon police station said that the victim’s family had lodged a missing complaint with the police station on August 14 and they suspect that the accused has disposed of the woman’s body in Gujarat’s Vapi city. The Police Commissioner said that preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was angry because the woman had filed a rape complaint. He said that based on the complaint, a criminal case was registered against the accused.
The woman refused to withdraw the complaint, so the man allegedly killed her, the officer said. He said that following the complaint of the victim’s sister, Naigaon police on Monday registered an FIR against the accused under section 302 (murder) and section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of crime) of the Indian Penal Code. The officer said that a case of abetment to suicide is also registered against the accused in another police station of Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar police limits.
