Aditya Thackeray has also jumped into the ongoing politics of toll nakas in Mumbai. Regarding Mumbai’s toll points, Aditya Thackeray said that Mumbaikars are being charged double tax. MLA from Worli and President of Yuva Sena (UBT) Aditya Thackeray has also besieged the government regarding toll plazas in Mumbai. Making a serious allegation against the state government, Thackeray demanded that the toll being collected on the East and West Express Highway, two major routes of Mumbai, should be stopped immediately. Aditya Thackeray also argued that the maintenance of the Eastern Express Highway and Western Express Highway connecting Mumbai city to Thane and Bhayandar-Mira Road was earlier handled by the MMRDA i.e. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
Now recently, the maintenance work of both these express highways has been given to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ie BMC. This means that now the maintenance work of these roads will be done with the tax money of Mumbaikars. Whereas MSRDC is currently getting the revenue from toll nakas located on both these express highways. Not only this, the earnings of government advertisement hoardings present on these highways are also going into the account of MSRDC. According to Aditya, when BMC has to take care of the road, then the income from toll should also go to BMC, as well as the revenue from advertisement should also go to BMC.
Aditya said that when the state government’s MSRDC is earning, then why Mumbaikars have to pay tax twice for the maintenance of those roads. Aditya said that his party will not agitate on the road to close the toll points because by doing so, the toll workers will be harmed and the common people will also have to suffer due to the traffic. Aditya further said that I have written a letter to the BMC commissioner, but the government of collectors and contractors will not stop the toll, so when our government comes, we will stop the toll.
