At Akola, Maharashtra, on Sunday, a large tree fell on a tin shelter that had worshippers standing below. At least 7 persons were killed. According to Nima Arora, the Collector of Akola, around 40 people were standing underneath the shed when the tree collapsed owing to heavy rains.
According to an ANI report, the Collector said that “almost 40 people were present beneath the shed, out of them 36 were hospitalized in the hospital and four were brought dead.” Then, she said, “the dead toll increased to seven, and one person is gravely wounded.”
Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, sent a message of sympathy on Twitter in response to the occurrence. He said that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has resolved to help the relatives of the deceased financially. In Paras in the Akola area, the devotees had assembled for a religious event, he said.
“It hurts to tell that a tree collapsed on a tin shack, killing several devotees who had assembled for a religious event at Paras in the Akola area. I offer them my sincere regards,” he said in a tweet.
“The Collector and the Superintendent of Police arrived to the scene right away and are working together to ensure that the wounded get prompt medical attention. We communicate with them often, he said.
Fadnavis stated, “Some of the wounded have been admitted to the District General Hospital and lesser injuries are being treated at Balapur,” in reference to the care given to the injured.
