Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has said that the increased duty on onion exports should be removed. At the same time, he claimed that the central government can also ban sugar exports. Former Union Agriculture Minister Pawar attended a program in Purandar tehsil of Pune district on Thursday. During this, he said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure fair price for onions.

Sharad Pawar said that onions are exported in large numbers from the country. The government has imposed 40 percent duty on exports. The farmers of Nashik are opposing this. They are demanding fair price for their onion produce. He further said that it is the responsibility of the government to give fair price to the onion growers keeping in view the cost.

He said that it is the right of the farmers to demand a fair price, but the government has not taken any concrete decision. He insisted that in any case the 40 per cent duty on exports should be removed. Pawar also claimed that the Center is considering banning sugar exports as well.

Let us tell you, Brazil is the largest producer of sugar in the world, followed by India. Last year, there was a drought in Brazil, due to which their sugar production was reduced. At the same time, Maharashtra is the second largest sugar producing state in India.

The leader said that the situation was favorable for the sugarcane growers in our country and they had planned to export sugar. But now the central government is thinking of banning sugar exports. He said that if this happens, no state government will be able to give better price for sugarcane.
