Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde joins celebration of Gudi Padwa
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde joined the celebrations of Gudi Padwa on Wednesday, marking the beginning of Marathi new year.
In the neighboring city of Thane, CM Shinde carried a palanquin of the presiding deity of Kopineshwar temple on his shoulders along with guests including senior BJP leader Vinay Sahashrabuddhe, Thane city BJP chief Niranjan Davkhare, and MLA Sanjay Kelkar.
The city will also witness Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray’s ‘Padwa Melava’ being set up in Chhatrapati Shivaji Park in Dadar. Mumbai Police has alerted security and issued traffic restrictions and alternate routes to avoid any inconvenience to the commuters.
Meanwhile, in preparation for the Hindu festival, the Mumbai BJP have roped in their grassroots workers to raise one lakh Gudis at their houses throughout the day.
Processions showcasing the Marathi culture will walk by areas such as Lalbaug, Parel, Worli, Vile Parle, Borivali, and Dahisar areas, and eleven karyakartas each from 9,800 centers will hoist Gudi on their houses, said Ashish Shelar, Mumbai BJP chief.
