Maharashtra Congress has temporarily postponed its ‘Jan Samvad Yatra’ to be held in all districts of Marathwada from Sunday. In fact, after the police lathicharge on Maratha quota agitators in Jalna district, tension has arisen in the area, in view of which the party has suspended the yatra.

Senior Congress leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in a post on social media X (formerly Twitter) said, “In the backdrop of the situation in Marathwada after the condemnable incident of inhuman lathicharge on Maratha reservation protest at Antarwali Sarati in Jalna district The Congress Party today temporarily suspended the Jan Samvad Yatra scheduled from 3rd September 2023 in all the eight districts of Marathwada Division. New date of the yatra will be announced later. Kindly note.”

On Friday, a violent mob had gathered at Antarwali Sarathi on the Dhule-Solapur road in Jalna. To disperse it, the police lathi-charged and also released tear gas shells. Actually, the protesters had agitated for the demand of reservation of the Maratha community, in which the health of a person deteriorated in the hunger strike, but the protesters did not cooperate with the authorities to take that person to the hospital, after which the situation worsened. .

During this, about 40 policemen and many protesters were injured due to the violence that erupted. The protesters also set fire to several buses. Police have registered a case against over 350 people for their involvement in the incident.
