The Supreme Court has given a big relief to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday (August 4). Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenged the Gujarat High Court order. The High Court had refused to stay Rahul’s sentence in the criminal defamation case.

Politics had also started after the Supreme Court’s decision in the Modi surname case. The statements of many ministers and leaders of the ruling party had come to the fore. At the same time, now in Nashik Maharashtra’s Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has also given his reaction on Rahul Gandhi’s case. He said that, the Supreme Court said yesterday that the statement made by Rahul Gandhi (in 2019) was not appropriate for a person holding a high position.

He further said that Congress and other opposition parties are praising the Supreme Court after the verdict in the case yesterday (‘Modi’ surname remark). These people think that if SC gives a decision in their favor then SC is good, otherwise it is bad. These people are trying to destroy the institutions made under the Constitution of India.

Court’s strict comment

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Rahul Gandhi, started the argument. The Supreme Court told Singhvi that he would have to make out an extraordinary case today to stay the sentence. The Supreme Court meanwhile said that it wanted to know why maximum punishment was given to Rahul. The court said that if the judge had given a sentence of 1 year and 11 months, then Rahul Gandhi would not have been disqualified.

On the court’s remark, Mahesh Jethmalani said that the Supreme Court had earlier cautioned Rahul Gandhi when he had said that the Prime Minister had been convicted by the apex court in the Rafale case. There has been no change in his conduct, he said.
