In a pamphlet found in Gadchiroli district of eastern Maharashtra, alleged Naxalites have threatened the state’s Food and Drug Minister Dharmaraobaba Atram. Atram is MLA from Aheri in Naxal affected district. The pamphlet by ‘Srinivas’ of ‘West Sub Zonal Bureau’ has accused Atram and his relatives of being ‘agents’ of Surjagarh Steel Project and appealed to the people to oppose them. In this, the minister has also been warned to stop ‘anti-people activities’. Speaking to reporters, Atram said the Surajgarh project provides employment to thousands of people and has led to development in the district. He said that he does not pay attention to such threats. Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police said that the police is taking this matter seriously.
Food and Drug Minister Dharmarao Baba Atram is the leader of NPC. He reached the assembly in 2019 by winning Aheri assembly constituency in Gadchiroli district. He won the elections by more than 4 thousand votes and defeated the BJP candidate. In July, when NCP leader Ajit Pawar joined the grand alliance government, Dharamrao Baba also got a chance to become a minister. He was defeated in the 2014 assembly elections. Atram Deepak Malaji had won this seat in the 2009 elections. The security of Minister Dharmarao Baba has been increased after he received threat from Naxalites.
