Today i.e. Wednesday (20th September) is the second day of Ganesh Utsav festival. Ganpati Utsav will be celebrated for the next 10 days from Ganesh Chaturthi. On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, Ganpati Bappa is present in every house and tableaux are decorated at many places for the arrival of Ganesha. On the second day of Ganesh Utsav festival, many devotees in Mumbai bid farewell to Ganesha idols after worshiping them.
In Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, people took out a procession of Bappa’s idols with devotion and enthusiasm and went to the immersion sites dancing and singing. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, so far 195 household and one community Ganpati idols have been immersed in the sea and artificial ponds.
BMC said at least 50 Ganpati idols were immersed in artificial ponds. These steps have been taken specifically to reduce water pollution. Officials said that no untoward incident was reported during the immersion on Wednesday.
The BMC has made preparations for immersion this year in 69 natural water bodies, including those away from the sea coast. At the same time, 191 artificial ponds have been created. The 10-day Ganeshotsav began in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra on Tuesday. In this festival, people decorated their homes and pandals based on the theme of Chandrayaan. Ganesh Utsav festival will end on Anant Chaturdashi on 28th September.
