Maharashtra: Major Accident In Thane, Lift Fell From 40 Storey Building, 7 People Died

A major incident took place in Thane city of Maharashtra on Sunday evening. Here, 7 people died after a lift collapsed in a multi-storey building. In this, 5 died on the spot. Two people who were seriously injured in this accident died during treatment in the hospital. As soon as information about the incident was received, police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot and the police are further investigating the matter. Yasin Tadvi, head of the Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation, said that the building where the incident took place is located on Ghodbunder Road.

According to the information, recently the 40 storey building Roonwal Irene was completed next to Narayani School in Balkum area on Ghodbunder Road. Waterproofing work was going on on its roof on Sunday. The accident happened when the workers were coming down after completing the work when the lift rope broke. Eyewitnesses informed the Balkum Fire Brigade about the incident. Immediately Fire Brigade Station Officer Omkar Vaiti reached the spot with the team. Also, as soon as information about this incident was received, former local councilor Sanjay Bhoir reached the spot and helped in the rescue work.

The rescue team pulled out the workers trapped in the lift. In this accident, five laborers died on the spot. Two seriously injured laborers were being taken to a private hospital. Then a laborer died. The other one died during treatment in the hospital. Police are further investigating how the accident happened.
