According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), a civic-run zoo in Mumbai has opened a “Crocodile Trail” that enables visitors to see crocodiles and alligators up close from a gallery.
A BMC news statement said on Monday that the ‘Crocodile Trail’ at the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Zoo and Botanical Garden, also known as Ranibaug, has been accessible to tourists for the last few days.
The route features two distinct cages and gives visitors a chance to get up close and personal with crocodiles and alligators, according to the statement. These cages have been home to two alligators and three crocodiles.
The zoo has a viewing gallery that is around 1,500 square feet in size put up, and visitors may use this platform to monitor the reptiles’ surface and submerged movements. The zoo has been seeing a lot of visitors as a result of the prolonged summer break for schools.
According to the BMC, the zoo receives between 20,000 and 22,000 visitors during the week and between 30,000 and 33,000 on the weekends. The zoo and park are situated in Byculla, in the centre of Mumbai, on 60 acres of land. It is one of India’s oldest zoos and is home to thousands of trees in addition to hundreds of herbivore and carnivore species.
