Maharashtra: Rahul Gandhi Is The Target Of A Criminal Defamation Complaint Brought By Savarkar’s Grandson

On Wednesday, the late Hindutva thinker V D Savarkar’s grandson filed a criminal defamation suit against Congressman Rahul Gandhi, alleging that Gandhi made false accusations against Savarkar during his speech in London.

What was said by Satyaki Savarkar?
Satyaki Savarkar, the grandson, said that his attorneys had filed a case with the municipal court under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code.

The appropriate court official was not present today, so they requested us to return on Saturday to get the case number. The case number will be given to us on Saturday, according to Satyaki Savarkar, who spoke to PTI.

Speaking about the specifics of the grievance, Satyaki Savarkar said that Rahul Gandhi had brought up the matter while speaking with the Indian diaspora in London.

Rahul Gandhi informed the crowd that V D Savarkar had written a book in which he claimed that he and his group of five to six buddies were thrashing a Muslim guy while he (Savarkar) was thrilled.

When discussing this occurrence, Rahul Gandhi questioned if it wasn’t a cowardly conduct. First of all, Gandhi’s account of this encounter is a fabrication. Savarkar, who had a scientific temperament, had never experienced such an episode. He advocated for democracy and counselled Muslims to follow a methodical course of action, according to Satyaki Savarkar.

Rahul Gandhi’s remark on V. D. Savarkar, he continued, was untrue, nasty, and intended to belittle him.

“After this effort to smear Savarkar, we decided not to remain mute and filed a criminal defamation complaint against Rahul Gandhi with the court under sections 499 and 500 of the IPC.

Satyaki Savarkar said, “V D Savarkar had not written such things in any book, so let this thing come up in the court as to where Rahul Gandhi read this incident.”

He said that there is a video of Rahul Gandhi saying these things during the encounter, and it would be shown in court.

What was said by Savarkar’s attorney?
One of the two lawyers defending Satyaki Savarkar, Anirudh Ganu, said, “They told us to come on Saturday and the case number will be issued because the court officer (assistant registrar) was not present in the court.”

Rahul Gandhi was found guilty of criminal defamation and given a two-year prison term on March 23 in Surat after making the statement, “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?” in 2019. As a result, he was disqualified from serving in the Lok Sabha.

Rahul Gandhi then filed a petition with the sessions court, which on April 3 granted him bail and continued the hearing on his request for a stay of conviction until April 13.
