Maharashtra: Rescue Operation Over In Raigarh, 57 People Still Missing; Section 144 Applied In The Area

So far 27 people have lost their lives due to the landslide in Raigad, Maharashtra. Officials said on Monday that teams of NDRF and other agencies have left the landslide site after calling off search and rescue operations. Now the local police is monitoring the spot. Till now the clue of 57 people has not been found.

State minister Uday Samant on Sunday said 27 bodies were recovered while 57 people were still untraceable during a four-day search and rescue operation involving 1,100 people, including NDRF personnel, after Wednesday’s landslide.

He said the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) called off its search and rescue operations on Sunday. Raigad Guardian Minister Samant told the media that even the relatives of the missing believed that their relatives were still buried under the debris and agreed with the decision to call off the rescue operation.

According to an NDRF official, after the search and rescue operation was called off, their teams and other agencies left the area and a base camp set up there has also been removed. A senior police officer from Raigad district said, “We have deployed an officer and three constables to guard the landslide site. The team will guard the site during the day.”

Section 144 applied in the area

Samant on Sunday said that no one should crowd the landslide site and Section 144 (Criminal Procedure Code) has been invoked to restrict the movement of people. He said that finally it was decided to call off the search operation in consultation with the district administration and other concerned officials.
