Maharashtra: Stone Pelting Between Two Groups In Kolhapur Over Aurangzeb’s Status, Police Lathicharged

On Tuesday, some youths posted on social media in support of Aurangzeb in Kolhapur. The post went viral. To oppose it, People of Hindu organizations protested in front of the Laxmipura police station. The police had to lathicharge to control the crowd.

Uproar in Kolhapur over Aurangzeb

According to the information received, some people had kept the status of Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan on their mobiles in Kolhapur, after which some Hindu organizations gathered today to protest against it. Hindu organizations had called for a ‘Kolhapur bandh’ today, demanding action against those who shared the objectionable posts. During the protest march, the police had to lathicharge to control the situation. Given the apprehensions of increasing tension in the two communities, the administration has imposed a ban on gathering people till June 19.

Hindutva organizations had called upon Hindus to assemble at Chhatrapati Shivaji Chowk, following which people started gathering from 9 am today to join the protest march. Police resorted to lathicharge to bring the tense situation under control and disperse the crowd.
