A tank-like structure has been found near the centuries-old Makai (Maize) Gate in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The discovery of the tank-like structure prompted the state archeology department to carry out excavations to find such structures, an official said on Wednesday. Let us tell you, Makai Gate was built in the 17th century during the Mughal period. Located on the banks of the Kham River, this gate is part of the fortifications built around the city of Aurangabad.
Amol Gote, assistant director of the state archeology office, said the two-storey monument at the Makai Gate was recently partially cleared of encroachment. Construction work was started on the land cleared to secure the boundary of the monument, he said. When debris was being removed from near the memorial, we found a contemporary tank-like structure. Our plan is to remove the debris and reach the actual destination of the monument. We hope to find more structures around the monument.
The official said he hoped that the remaining encroachments would also be removed. The bridge connecting the east and west banks of the Kham River begins at the Makai Gate. Gote said that currently there is moisture in the base area of Makai Gate. We are going to plan to reduce the humidity to prevent its deterioration.
