A tehsildar in Nashik was arrested on Saturday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh. An official of the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau gave this information.
The accused, Nareshkumar Bahiram (44), had demanded a bribe in return for leniency in imposing a fine of Rs 1.25 crore on a person for mining of minor mineral muroom, they said.
“He called the owner of the land from where Murum was mined for inspection and then demanded bribe from his representative who reached there,” the official said. However, the representative did not want to bribe him. So he informed the ACB about this. ACB caught the bribe taking officer by laying a trap. Police is taking further action in this matter.
The officer said that there is an allegation against Tehsildar Nareshkumar Bahiram for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh. Soon the accused will be produced in the court and remand may be sought for further questioning.
