It is raining heavily in Mumbai these days. Landslides are being seen at many places. Due to the rains in different districts of Maharashtra, people are facing the problem of water-logging. There are a total of 7 ponds supplying drinking water to Mumbai. Of these, the fourth pond Modak Sagar has overflowed. In fact, Modak Sagar overflowed on Thursday night at around quarter to 11, after which the water of the pond started falling out. Let us inform that earlier Tulsi, Vihar and Tansa ponds have overflowed. This was seen in this week itself.
More than 61 percent of drinking water is stored in Mumbai’s reservoirs. There is so much water in these reservoirs that there will be no water tension in Mumbai for 7 months. If there is a storage of 14 lakh MLD water in the total 7 reservoirs that supply water to Mumbai, then Mumbai will not have to face the problem of water throughout the year. So far 8 lakh MLD water has accumulated in these reservoirs. About 4000 MLD water is supplied daily to Mumbai from these reservoirs.
Red alert issued in these districts
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Satara and it is getting heavy in Gadchiroli as well. At present, people have got relief from rain in Kolhapur. On the other hand, there is a possibility of moderate rain in Pune city. Red alert has been issued in Satara, Ratnagiri, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Vidarbha. Along with this, an orange alert has been issued for rain in Konkan, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Gondia, Bhandara, Yavatman districts.
