According to a source on Thursday, the French Ministry of Finance and Economics was searched earlier this week as part of an investigation into the 2017 acquisition of Brazilian football sensation Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.
The source said that on Monday, anti-corruption unit officers conducted the searches because of concerns that PSG would have benefited from favorable tax treatment as a condition of the transfer.
After leaving Barcelona in 2017 for Paris Saint-Germain, which is controlled by Qatar, for a record-breaking 222 million euros ($242 million), Neymar scored 118 goals in 173 games despite a string of ailments.
He moved from the French club to Saudi Al-Hilal last year, becoming the most recent well-known player to be signed by the Saudi Pro League, which has a large budget.
According to a source familiar with the discussions, he will get 100 million euros every season in Saudi Arabia, and PSG would also receive 100 million euros from the agreement.
