The Mumbai Indians team has long been associated with Kieron Pollard. The West Indian all-rounder had more than ten years of IPL experience and has been a key member of the club and a big contributor. Therefore, Pollard remained an important player in the overall scheme of things when the club left the IPL to compete in other tournaments across the world. While serving as the captain of MI New York in Major League Cricket, Pollard earned his eighth championship with the MI club. The group won the MLC championship for the first time by defeating the Seattle Orcas. MINY shared a photo of Pollard, his wife, and their children holding the MLC trophy.
“???????. 8 for the Pollard family in Blue & Gold,” was the caption that was uploaded beside the picture.
Pollard was a key member of the Mumbai Indians’ two Champions League championship teams in 2011 and 2013, as well as their five Indian Premier League championships.
The third-highest run scorer in the T20 format, Pollard is regarded as a global legend of the T20 game. He has played in 625 T20 matches, making him the player with the most experience in the shortest format. The dynamic batsman ranks third in the format with over 12000 runs, only behind Chris Gayle and Shoaib Malik.
Pollard made an IPL retirement announcement this year and accepted the position as Mumbai’s batting coach. The all-rounder, who continues to compete in other competitions, seized the chance to lead MI New York during the MLC’s debut season by stepping up. With just two wins under their belt, the squad concluded the group stage in fourth place.
MINY went on a fantastic run in the playoff games and won the championship in the finals despite Pollard missing the playoffs due to an injury. In the playoffs, Nicholas Pooran took over as captain, and in the championship game, he showed why he is a feared batter by playing a knock that would go down in history. With just four overs remaining, Pooran chased down the target of 184 after scoring 137 not out in only 55 balls.
