The assassination of a Russian journalist in Ukraine was “a heinous, premeditated crime” carried out by Western nations and Kiev, the Russian foreign ministry said on Saturday, pledging a “response” against those responsible.
Rostislav Zhuravlev, a war journalist for the government-run RIA Novosti news agency, was killed in a Ukrainian attack on Saturday in the southern Zaporizhzhia district, according to a previous statement from the Russian military.
His death was also reported by the agency, which said that it occurred close to the frontline settlement of Pytikhatki.
The Russian army released a statement saying that four journalists suffered injuries of varying degrees as a consequence of an attack by the Ukrainian army employing cluster bombs.
The RIA Novosti journalist Rostislav Zhuravlev passed away from injuries sustained during an evacuation as a consequence of the explosion caused by the cluster bombs.
After the incident, three more journalists were reported to be in stable condition in the hospital.
The Russian foreign ministry said that “everything indicates that the attack on the group of journalists was not carried out by chance.”
It said, “The responsible international organizations choose, as previously in similar circumstances, to remain silent about this horrible act.
The ministry claims that “the journalists were gathering information for a report on the bombing of settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region by militants of the Kyiv regime using cluster munitions banned in many nations around the world.”
It claimed that the weaponry had been given to the Ukrainian army by the US.
According to the White House, Ukrainian troops are employing cluster bombs that were provided by the US on the battlefield as Kyiv attempts to gain momentum for its stuttering counteroffensive.
Due of the long-term dangers they represent to people, the weapons, which may distribute up to several hundred tiny explosive charges that may stay undetonated in the ground, are prohibited in many nations.
The Russian foreign minister issued a warning, stating that “those who supplied cluster munitions to their proteges in Kyiv will also share the full measure of responsibility” and added that “the perpetrators of the brutal massacre of the Russian journalist will inevitably receive the punishment they deserve.”
