MSRDC Announces Hour-long Roadblocks For The Installation Of The Highway Management System On The Mumbai-Pune Expressway

This month, starting on Tuesday, the popular Mumbai-Pune Expressway will see additional hour-long checkpoints from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), which is anticipated to impede the circulation of cars.

In a news statement released on Monday, MSRDC said that these traffic jams were caused by the continuing construction of gantries as part of the Highway Management System at different locations along the 95-km-long highway.

According to the press release, these roadblocks will be in place at different points along the route everyday between noon and one o’clock in the afternoon from October 17 to 19 and on October 26.

On the stated days, these obstructions would impact both the Pune-bound and Mumbai-bound lanes at important sites like Lonavala, Khandala Tunnel, Dasturi Police station, Dheku Village, and Khandala Exit, it added.

According to the announcement, the blockages would mostly affect the Mumbai-bound corridors on the following days. On October 17 (Tuesday), the block will be in place at Khandala Tunnel and Lonavala for the Pune-bound corridor.

For like reasons, the state-run company had earlier this month enforced one- or two-hour blockages.

The announcement said that after the removal of each roadblock, traffic on both the lanes leading to Pune and Mumbai would resume at 1 pm.

It is noteworthy that the Mumbai-Pune Expressway was India’s first access-controlled motorway.

at 2002, the six-lane highway was completely operational, with tolls being collected at five plazas, the main ones being at Khalapur and Talegaon.
