Due to the significant rainfall, the water levels in seven lakes in Mumbai that provide water to the city have been reported at 15.4% of the full supply level. The water supply is now 22,2,868 million liters, which is an increase from the previous year. The 10% water reduction imposed in the city starting on July 1 will not, however, be instantly lifted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
“The levels may have improved as of today, but with the rains being unpredictable, the BMC cannot take the risk of immediately withdrawing the cut,” a BMC official was cited as saying by TOI. On Saturday, the water reserves were 1,85,972 million liters, or 12.85% of the full supply levels.
Despite rapidly filling lakes, the BMC has mandated a 10% water reduction for Mumbai residents starting on July 1.
The city and its suburbs are expected to have moderate rain during the next 24 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), with the chance of sporadic strong periods.
For the next 48 hours, there’s a good chance of moderate rain in the city and suburbs, with the chance of sporadic intense periods. A July 1 IMD report said that the maximum and lowest temperatures “are very likely to be around 30 degrees and 24 degrees, respectively.”
