To provide better health facilities to the citizens of Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg and Bhandup Complex of Eastern Suburbs, BMC will take the hospital on rent. For this, BMC has issued a tender, which is estimated to cost Rs 500 crore in 5 years. Krantiveer Mahatma Phule Hospital located in Kannamwar Nagar of Vikhroli was closed in 2018 due to dilapidation. Due to this, the nearby citizens have to go to Ghatkopar and other places for treatment. Right now this hospital may take another 5 years, so BMC has decided to take a hospital on rent in this area. This will benefit 8 to 9 lakh citizens of this area. This will be the first time that BMC will take the hospital on rent.
A BMC official told that the hospital which will be hired should have a capacity of 100 to 150 beds, 10 ICU beds and 20 MICU beds. The official said that this hospital should be within a 5 km radius of the existing hospital. The official said that in many BMC hospitals, private organizations run many departments. We will take all the stops and equipment of the hospital that will come up. If there is any shortage, then BMC will arrange it. Treatment will be provided at low rates in this hospital.
It may take 3 to 5 years to become Krantiveer Mahatma Phule Hospital. The BMC official said that MHADA has given permission for the construction work only last week. BMC has paid 13,23 crores to MHADA for using MHADA land. Now two new buildings will be constructed by demolishing the old Mahatma Phule hospital. One of these buildings will be for the residence of the employees, while the other building will have a hospital. This will be a super specialty hospital of about 500 beds.
BMC, which provides health facilities to about 1 crore 40 lakh Mumbaikars, will now take a hospital on rent in place of the hospital which has been closed for the last 5 years. Till now BMC remained indifferent towards the health of the citizens there. When BMC realized that it might take another 5 years to build Mahatma Phule Hospital, then it woke up from sleep and agreed to rent the hospital for the first time. Sources say that like other projects, there can be a setting here too. A close one may plan to rent a loss-making hospital that is on the verge of closure. With this, BMC will also be able to say that keeping in mind the health of the citizens, we have taken the hospital on rent and the close ones will also be benefited.
