Mumbai Gets Its Wettest July Ever With 1557.8 Mm Of Rainfall So Far, According To A Meteorological Report For Maharashtra

After heavy downpours all day, Mumbai recorded its wettest July on Wednesday, with the month having already seen a record 1557.8 mm of precipitation, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The previous wettest July on record was in 2020, when the IMD’s Santacruz observatory (representing Mumbai’s suburbs) recorded 1,502 mm of precipitation.

“Santacruz (observatory) reported 1,433 mm from July 1 to July 26, 2023 morning 830 hours (8.30 am). As a result, the Santacruz observatory recorded a total of 1557.8 mm as of July 26, 2023, breaking the previous record for wettest July, the IMD said.

The meteorological office upgraded the ‘orange’ warning to’red’ with effect from Wednesday night till Thursday afternoon as a result of the continuous torrential rains that pounded Mumbai throughout the day.

The red warning, which covers Mumbai’s metropolis and surrounding suburbs, is in effect from Wednesday at 8 p.m. until Thursday afternoon and forecasts moderate to very high rains in a few isolated locations.

of addition, IMD anticipated significant rainfall and issued a red warning for Raigad, Pune, Satara, and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra. Palghar and Thane also received an orange warning in the meantime.
