On Thursday, March 23, the price of gasoline and diesel stayed the same for yet another day. The US financial sector crisis caused multiple changes in the price of oil internationally, while the price of gasoline and diesel in India remained stable. Due to a price freeze imposed by Indian oil marketing companies including Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, this is expected to continue to be the pattern. The price freeze was implemented by OMCs in order to make up for losses from the previous two quarters. They still owe Rs 18,000 crore in compounded losses from prior quarters as of March 20.
Since May 21 of last year, there has been no change in the price of gasoline or diesel. At the pump, drivers in Delhi are required to pay Rs 96.72 for gasoline and Rs 89.62 for diesel. Chennai residents pay Rs 102.73 for a litre of gasoline and Rs 94.33 for the same amount of diesel. Among all the major cities in the nation, Mumbai residents must pay the most for gas. The cost of a litre has soared to Rs 106.31 here. The price of diesel is Rs 94.27 for a litre. Diesel costs Rs 92.76 per litre while gasoline remains unchanged at Rs 106.03 per litre for inhabitants of Kolkata.
