On Thursday, there is a chance of mild to moderate rain in Mumbai, Thane, and the nearby cities of Palghar.
The area is under a yellow warning from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). IMD predicts a thunderstorm on May 4 with lightning, light to moderate rain, and strong gusts (30-40kmph) in isolated areas.
Sushma Nair, an IMD Mumbai scientist, elaborated on the cause of the weather shift by stating that there is an interaction between dry and moist winds.
According to Nair, rain is expected to start early on Thursday owing to moisture intrusion in the air, according to Indian Express.
Additionally, the weather forecaster issued a yellow alert for the Maharashtra cities of Akola, Nanded, Gadchiroli, and Nagpur.
Mumbai saw rains in April as well, with Santacruz Observatory recording 15 mm of precipitation on April 13—a record amount of rain for the month.
The weather in Bengaluru will also shift, with the IMD expecting sporadic thundershowers until May 7. According to TOI, the capital of Karnataka may also see showers with rainfall ranging from 2.5mm to 64.4mm.
A GRIZZLY MORNING WAKES UP DELHI; ACS OFF, GEYSERS ON AFTER RAIN
In the meanwhile, Delhi had a temperature dip to 16.9 degrees Celsius and a cloudy morning after three days of sporadic downpour.
With intermittent rain and overcast weather in the city and surrounding areas for the previous three days under the effect of repeated western disturbances, the city exceeded the May rainfall average.
Residents were surprised by the unusual fog that blanketed Delhi-NCR on Thursday, but weather department officials explained that the conditions are favorable for the formation of fog because of the air’s high moisture content and the large difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures.
According to IMD estimates, May, which is typically the warmest month in Delhi with a mean maximum temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius, is likely to have fewer heatwave days since more rain is expected.
