The Mumbai Police has registered a case against 11 protesters who allegedly attempted suicide after climbing onto the first floor of the Maharashtra Secretariat on Tuesday. An official provided this information on Wednesday. A group of protesters were demanding fair compensation for the land acquired for the Upper Wardha Dam project. In this episode, he jumped over the net installed for security on the first floor of Mantralaya Bhavan. According to the police, they are residents of Morshi in Amravati district.
The protestors also demanded four acres of agricultural land for each villager acquired for the dam project and state government jobs for those affected by the project, the official said. At least 40 protesters were detained by the police after the demonstration.
The official said that an FIR has been registered for disobeying the Mumbai Police order against 11 of them under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 143 (unlawful assembly), 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of Maharashtra Police Act. He said that all the accused were let go after being given notice to appear in the court.
