An “orange” signal for severe to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations on Tuesday has been issued by the Mumbai office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the capital of Maharashtra and the nearby Thane and Raigad districts, according to a municipal official. The majority of the city saw gloomy skies, but since early Tuesday morning, it hasn’t rained.

Since Sunday, Mumbai’s rain has been less intense after a week of intense rain. On Monday, the sun temporarily emerged through the clouds in certain areas of Mumbai.

The IMD Mumbai issued a “orange” notice for the city on Monday afternoon in its “district forecast and warnings,” expecting high to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations over the next 24 hours, according to the municipal official.

According to him, the meteorological service has also issued “orange” and “yellow” alerts for the districts of Raigad and Thane, as well as Palghar. The meteorological bureau has projected “moderate to heavy rainfall” during the next 24 hours in its daily “weather forecast” published on Tuesday morning, the official added.

In the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Tuesday, the island city’s eastern and western suburbs, respectively, had average rainfall of 30.81mm, 55.78mm, and 55.20mm. On Tuesday, there were no reports of waterlogging anywhere in the city.

The Central Railway and Western Railway’s train services were operating normally, according to the transportation authorities. According to a municipal official, bus services provided by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) initiative were also operating normally with no route changes.
