On her way home from school on Thursday, an 8-year-old girl was brutally crushed by a dumper truck in Mumbai’s Dahisar neighborhood. Vidya Santosh Bansode was the victim, and the event was captured on a neighboring CCTV camera.
According to a report from ANI on Friday, the Dahisar police apprehended Mukesh Dhale, a dumper driver, and filed a complaint against him under section 304 (A) of the IPC. In the social media footage that has gone viral, the truck is shown running over the girl as onlookers yell at the driver.
The girl first collapsed while being pushed by the vehicle. The truck drove again a few inches forward when a guy shouted at the driver to turn around. Afterwards, a few others who were nearby took up the girl. Dhale attempted to run at this moment but was beaten back by the crowd, who called the police.
At Dahisar, the event happened close to Sagar Jewellery. According to a report, the police said that “at first glance it looked that the driver, 32-year-old Mukesh Dhale, was under the influence of alcohol” at the time of the collision.
According to the FIR, the incident happened after Vidya, her mother Rekha (34), and her brother Chirag (13) were dropped off at school in Dahisar. While clutching Rekha’s hand, Vidya was struck by the dumper truck as the two were making their way back home along NN Dubey Road.
