Mumbai residents will see 10% water cutbacks starting on July 1 due to little rainfall, which hardly affected the water levels in the reservoirs that provide Mumbai with water.
According to a Tuesday article, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorized the water reduction on the advice of the hydraulic department.
From now on, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will shut off 15% of the water supply to Kharghar, Taloja, and the other villages.
The reduction might increase to 25%, CIDCO warned, if the situation worsens.
“The city is currently receiving insufficient rainfall, which has scarcely affected the water levels in the dams from which CIDCO obtains its water. An official from the water distribution department was cited in a story by Hindustan Times as stating, “The decision to execute a cut is decided after taking stock of the situation on the dam site, and it is highly alarming.
The water level in Mumbai’s seven water supply lakes was 6.97% of the 14 lakh million liters of water needed to satisfy the city’s annual demand as of Tuesday morning. This sum does not include the water reserve supply.
On Sunday, Monsoon finally made it to Mumbai after a delayed start.Since then, the city has only had 344mm of rainfall, which is less than the 526.3mm of rainfall that is typically needed in June.
Tuesday saw some light rain fall in the city. Additionally, the Met Department has issued a yellow signal for Wednesday, signifying sporadic, heavy rains.
