Nashik: The Reserve Bank of India recently announced the demonetisation of Rs 2000 notes. In response, MNS chief Raj Thackeray indirectly criticized the Modi government, stating that the country cannot afford to make hasty decisions like demonetisation. Thackeray made these remarks during a press conference in Nashik on Saturday.

When asked if the demonetisation by the Modi government had failed, Thackeray reiterated his previous comments, emphasizing that questions like these are not posed to government officials. He called demonetisation a form of demolition and criticized the government for not consulting experts before implementing such a decision. Thackeray pointed out that during the demonetisation period, the newly introduced notes were not even available in ATMs, indicating a lack of planning. He argued that the country cannot bear the burden of such decisions and highlighted the inconvenience caused to people who repeatedly had to deposit money in the bank and receive new notes. Thackeray concluded by stating that the government should refrain from conducting such experiments.
Regarding the notice sent by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to NCP state president Jayant Patil, Thackeray claimed to have no information about it. He expressed his concern about ongoing transactions involving illicit funds in the country and warned that actions taken now may be used against the ruling party by the next government. Thackeray emphasized that no one remains in power forever and urged the government to consider the consequences of their actions.
