The core committee of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has rejected Sharad Pawar’s resignation as party chief after holding a meeting. The party was continuously urging Pawar to take back his resignation and even today the leaders made the same request. Now the thing to be seen will be whether Pawar implements the committee’s decision or rejects it himself. National Vice President of NCP and Convenor of the Core Committee, Praful Patel put forward a resolution rejecting Pawar’s resignation, which was unanimously accepted by all the members. During this, an NCP worker also tried to commit suicide by spraying kerosene on himself outside the office.
Within 10 minutes of the start of the NCP meeting, the decision to reject Pawar’s resignation was taken. That means, the committee had already come after setting the agenda. All the leaders will now go to persuade Sharad Pawar. Party leaders believe that with less than a year left for the Lok Sabha elections, it will be difficult for the new party president to take decisions. Party leaders can ask Pawar to continue as party president and make the changes he wants.
In a press conference after meeting, Praful Patel said, ‘Everyone tried to persuade Sharad Pawar even at that time. After this, met many big leaders of the party like me and asked them to withdraw their resignation. Since then we have been repeatedly requesting him that the country and the party need you. Without you this party will not be able to run and you are the pillar of this party. You know that Sharad Pawar is a respected leader in the whole country. Your fans are in every state and their influence is visible in many places. When we went to Badal Saheb’s funeral, there too many people said that the farmers here are happy because of you.’
Referring to the resolution passed in the meeting, Patel said, ‘Many workers have conveyed their feelings to us in the last two-three days. All the workers are saddened and angry with Pawar’s decision. A meeting of the committee was called today. We were meeting Pawar saheb continuously for two-three days and were requesting him to withdraw his decision. Today’s meeting unanimously passed a resolution that Pawar withdraw his resignation and the committee disapproves of his decision.
Many reasons were given for Pawar’s resignation. Recently, NCP was stripped of its national party status, after which Pawar thought of leaving the post of party president. The second news came that some MLAs of NCP are going to go with Bharatiya Janata Party. In such a situation, if there was a split in the party, it would have been difficult for Pawar, but at the last moment he played the game of resignation and all the party leaders united. It is said that Pawar kills two birds with one stone, but this time he hit many.
When Pawar took the decision to resign, only four of his family members, daughter Supriya Sule, son-in-law Sadanand Sule, nephew Ajit Pawar and his wife, knew.
