Prior to the ODI World Cup, the team management could breathe a sigh of relief after Shreyas Iyer’s impressive century against Australia in the second ODI.
Iyer, whose fitness was being scrutinized, batted with confidence and achieved a self-assured century to support his selection for India’s World Cup team.
Iyer took full advantage of the opportunity to bat at number three when Virat Kohli was out of the lineup. He and Shubman Gill, who also made a century, combined for a 200-run second wicket partnership.
Iyer received player-of-the-match honors for his 105-run innings. When he accepted the trophy, he was questioned about whether he would want to bat at number 3 in future games given his solid track record there.
Iyer acknowledged that it is a set item for Kohli and that there is no prospect of taking that.
“I am adaptable and prepared to bat in whatever position as needed by my team. There is no prospect of unseating Virat (Kohli), who is among the best, at position three. Iyer said at the post-game presentation that all she has to do is keep scoring.
The flamboyant batsman also spoke about his difficult recent months, during which he missed a significant amount of competitive cricket as he was healing from ailments.
The Mumbai resident said that his friends, family, and teammates supported him during the difficult times because they knew he had the confidence to get through them.
“It was like being on a roller coaster right now. All of my teammates, friends, and family were at my side. I wanted to be there and take part in the contests since I was watching them on television. grateful to have confidence in oneself. The aches and pains persisted, but I was aware of my goals, he added.
I’m happy with how well my plans worked out today. In essence, I didn’t want to make it more difficult when I took the field. I wanted to fix my eyes since that’s how I boost my self-confidence,” he said.
