OpenAI Offers Up to $20,000 in Bug Bounty Program for ChatGPT AI Systems
OpenAI, the company behind the widely-used chatbot ChatGPT, announced on Tuesday that it will be offering up to $20,000 to customers who identify flaws in its AI systems. The OpenAI Bug Bounty programme will award payments starting at $200 for each vulnerability found, with the amount increasing based on the severity of the flaw.

Bug bounty programmes are commonly used by technology companies to encourage programmers and ethical hackers to disclose defects in their software systems. OpenAI has invited researchers to review certain functionalities of ChatGPT and the framework of how OpenAI systems communicate and share data with third-party applications, according to details on the bug bounty platform Bugcrowd. However, the programme does not cover any incorrect or malicious content produced by OpenAI systems.
This announcement follows the recent ban of ChatGPT in Italy due to suspected breaches of privacy rules. The incident has sparked increased scrutiny from regulators in other European countries towards generative AI services.
Since its launch in November, Microsoft Corp.-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT has gained widespread popularity for its quick responses to questions, while also causing some distress among users due to inaccuracies.
