Over 80,000 Idols Were Submerged In Water In Mumbai On The Fifth Day Of Ganesh Celebrations

Between Saturday, the fifth day of the Ganesh celebrations, and the early hours of Sunday, more than 80,000 idols were submerged in Mumbai, according to a city official.

According to a press statement from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, 80,969 idols were submerged up to 3 a.m. on Sunday, including 7,738 Gauri Ganesh statues and 1,410 “sarvajanik” or public idols.

According to the report, 32,509 idols total—including 2,308 Gauri Ganesh idols—were submerged in artificial waterbodies. These included 581 public and 29,620 domestic idols.

The immersions took place in 191 artificial ponds built by the city authority, 73 natural locations, and the beaches of Girgaum, Dadar, Juhu, Marve, and Aksa.

The State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), the Quick Response Team (QRT), the Rapid Action Force, and the Home Guards, together with 2,094 officers, 11083 constables, 32 SRPF platoons, and the city’s Home Guards have all been deployed in anticipation of the celebrations, according to a statement from the Mumbai Police.

It said that no unfavorable incidents were observed during the day while submerging.
