In a World Cup encounter here on Friday, South Africa defeated Pakistan for 270 thanks to the superb fifties made by captain Babar Azam and captain Saud Shakeel, followed by Tabraiz Shamsi’s four wickets.
Shakeel scored a run-a-ball fifty-two, but Babar, choosing to bat, made a fifty-six-ball fifty. Shadab Khan contributed as well, scoring 43 off 36 balls.
But South Africa managed to capture wickets, with Shamsi (4/60) finishing as the most successful bowler, and Pakistan was unable to form partnerships.
Six wickets were shared by Gerald Coetzee (2/42) Lungi Ngidi (1/45) and Marco Jansen (3/43).
