According to NCP leader Sharad Pawar, whose wife Pratibha played a part in bringing their nephew back into the party fold, Ajit Pawar’s rebellion when he temporarily joined the BJP in 2019 was not only about party discipline but also a family matter.
Pawar said that after Ajit Pawar revolted, party officials stayed in contact with him constantly in the revised edition of his Marathi autobiography, “Lok Majhe Sangati” (People Accompany Me), which focuses on events after 2015.
In November 2019, when Ajit Pawar’s father was busy putting up a coalition with the Shiv Sena and Congress, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar established a hastily disbanded cabinet.

Later, Ajit Pawar rose to the rank of deputy chief minister in the MVA administration headed by Uddhav Thackeray. He is now the leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly.
